On October 9th, 10th, and 11th, 2023, the International Conference on Female Genital Mutilation took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
This was only their second conference, where they repeated their goal and target was to eliminate all FGM practice by the year 2030.
In a nutshell, they conceded that progress was uneven and slow, but some definite progress has been made, and FGM practice is declining.
Their official updated figures are dependent on agencies like UNICEF who are doing some great work in the field.
Some good news so far but because progress is slow we need to pick up the public awareness on campaigns like ours and keep pushing.
We urge all nations to support our FGM Campaign.
1. Add another Protocol to the CRC - the Convention on the Rights of the Child - to make FGM a criminal offense in every Member State and compel members to ratify this Protocol.
2. Promote custodial sentences in all nations for those caught practicing it.
3. Support lawsuits from victims against those caught practicing it to also punish them financially wherever possible.
